Shall I Buy New Rotors Instead of Turning Them?

R1 Concepts is the leading manufacturer and retailer of award-winning automotive braking systems from Los Angeles, California.

Turning brake rotors is like healing them by correcting any warpage that may have been caused during your daily driving. It is a process done to extend their lifespan.

Look for these signs and know when to replace your brake rotors:

1) Worn-down brake pads

Your pads will be visibly obvious when they start thinning and wearing down.

2)  Squealing or squeaking sounds

When you hear squeaking sounds when you press down the brake pedals, it's about time to replace them rather than turn them.

If you are experiencing the signs above, bring your vehicle to a repair center and have the brake service inspected.  During a brake service, your mechanic has to verify that each rotor is not warped and should therefore meet the legal minimum thickness specification.

Your rotors might be worn down where turning them will do more harm than good.

Extend the life of your brakes by replacing your new rotors instead of turning them.
